Calling artists and photographers! Art call for the 2019 Small Stones Festival of the Arts has been extended for one week for the second annual juried exhibition of fine art and fine art photography to be held Nov. 8-16 at the Great Hall, One Grafton Common. Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 18 at the 2019 Art Call website https://smallstones2019.artcall.org.

Six independent jurors will select all submissions for the exhibit and award first, second and third cash prize winners and juror’s choice (six awards). Exhibit attendees will choose a popular choice award for each category. Cash awards are $500 for first; $250 for second; and $100 for third place. An exhibit catalogue will be available at the festival.

Three distinguished jurors have been appointed by the SSFA for each category. The fine art painting and drawing category is juried by Jim Welu, former director and chief curator of Worcester Art Museum (WAM), Diane Panarelli Miller, world renowned international artist and member of the New England Plein Air Painters and Jeanne Rosier Smith, accomplished international artist and member of Pastel Society of America. Photography jurors include Nancy Burns, associate curator of prints, drawings and paintings of WAM, Stephen DiRado, professor of Clark University and Scott Erb and Donna Dufault of Erb/Dufault Photography.

Three regional arts organizations – Apple Tree Arts, the Worcester County Camera Club, and the Blackstone Valley Art Association have collaborated to create the Small Stones Festival of Arts to provide an opportunity for Central Massachusetts artists and beyond to exhibit their work and gain recognition. The festival features juried exhibitions of photography and painting with gallery talks by jurors as well as an accompanying music program featuring several concerts.
