Reception, awards ceremony set for Bring Us Your Best art exhibition – News – Hendersonville Times-News – Google Alerts

The opening reception and awards ceremony for the 16th annual Bring Us Your Best art exhibition will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2.


Gathering the work of 100 or more artists, this all-media visual art exhibition will be on display through Friday, Aug. 16 in the Blue Ridge Conference Hall of the TEDC building at Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock. 


The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.


Two local artists are sponsoring a new award to encourage emerging and “new” artists, or those who do not often show their work. Artists Karen Eve Bayne and Peter Gollup will consider both excellence in design and execution as well as potential in any medium for the new Chrysalis award. Three $100 Chrysalis awards will be presented at the opening awards reception.


Winners of the first prize of $250, second prize of $150 and third prize of $100 will be announced in four categories: 2-dimensional art, 3-dimensional art, fine craft and photography.


Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hendersonville will also announce the winner of the “One Planet, One World” award. The winning artwork will be the best representation of a world community recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of all beings, and the oneness and interdependence of all life, and the artist will receive $250.


The Artist’s Choice award will be announced at the opening reception. Sponsored and presented by local artist/patrons Walter Arnold and John Patrick McAfee, this award is selected by all artists who have work in the show. The Artist’s Choice award winner will receive a $300 cash prize.


The Starving Artist Art Supply and Custom Framing Shop is sponsoring the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced after the close of the show. This award winner will be determined by the votes of all gallery visitors who will be encouraged to cast votes for their favorite piece in the show, and will receive a $250 gift certificate from The Starving…
