Area artists are encouraged to offer submissions for a popular contest that helps support a community nonprofit organization.
The Give Cheese A Chance art contest returns on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 3-6 p.m. at Fonta Flora Brewery and is free to the public. A popular vote will decide the winner, whose logo will be used as the new logo for the fundraiser’s event, which is the grilled cheese competition. T-shirts with the logo will be printed for the November grilled cheese contest.
The art contest is hosted by Meeting Place Mission, a community center that aims “to end the cycle of homelessness (and) provide hope and opportunity to men, women and children through shelter, transition and recovery,” according to their website, and promotes the Mission’s grilled cheese competition. The competition will cost $12, and proceeds will go to Meeting Place’s Women & Children’s Emergency Shelter.
This year’s rules are similar to years’ past: the art must be original, designed on 8-by-10 paper and be clean without smudges. Artists providing art must submit their pieces at Fonta Flora Brewery, located at 317 N. Green St. in downtown Morganton, by 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8. Popular vote begins shortly thereafter at 4 p.m.
“Artists can use their own creative juices and do anything that they feel inspired to do to kind of bring together grilled cheese, Morganton and the Meeting Place to create a cool logo for (the event),” said Alison Azbell, executive director at Meeting Place Mission.
