Dozens of Tylerites gathered to view local artists’ various artwork during an opening reception for Gallery Main Street’s “Celebration” jury art exhibition Wednesday, celebrating the gallery’s 10th anniversary.
Featured artists include Stephanie Clayton, John Deaton, Dory Hershey, Dace Lucia Kidd, Dana Lynch, Sarah Miller, Tony Piekarski, Linda Schooley, Pam Smith and Nicholas Trent.
The displayed artwork ranged from triple-exposure photographs to mixed media mosaics.
Stephanie Franklin, city of Tyler Managing Director, said the amount of people involved in Gallery Main Street has grown over the years and that having quarterly exhibitions has created a space for up-and-coming artists to showcase their work.
During the reception Franklin announced plans for the gallery to upgrade to a new, larger space in Plaza Tower, with hopes of moving in by November.
Gallery Main Street will be partnering with Heart of Tyler and Visit Tyler in their new location, creating one collaborative space for visitors to gather information and view local art.
“The most exciting part is that the community has embraced us and supported it,” Franklin said. “The continued partnerships with not only the universities, but now with Visit Tyler, has given us the ability to combine our efforts to bring even more people into the introduction of art.
“Ten years is a long time. It’s exciting that we’ve been successful and we hope to stay at our new space for another 10 years.”
