ASHTABULA — Downtown will come alive with art and music during the fourth annual Art in the Alley show, featuring the works of local artists.
The mixed media event will be 2-10 p.m. Sept. 7 in a new fully covered Artist Gallery Tent and Juried Art Show, where works of art by both amateur and experienced artists will be displayed on easels.
There will be a wine garden, food, vendors, artisans, live music and family friendly art activities — all sponsored by the Ashtabula Downtown Development Association (ADDA), Ziegler Heating Company, NOPEC, Play All Awards and Engraving and Chromaflo Technologies.
“It gets bigger and better each year with more artists and things to do,” said Ward 5 Council person Jane Haines. “We’ve added three classes, including a Halloween Paint and Sip because people like to decorate their homes for Halloween.”
More than 30 local artists are expected to show and sell various types of art work, including photography, graphite, ink, watercolor, acrylics, oils, ceramics, fiber art and 3-D work.
The easels displaying the artwork are sponsored by local businesses. All proceeds will go toward the ADDA’s efforts to improve the downtown area.
Organizers are hoping for good weather as special guest, Chef Lisa Delgado from the Food Network show, “Chopped,” will attend the event and give a culinary presentation.
Last year, 25 artists showed their work, while people mingled and reviewed the art, which included water colors, photography and more. Afterwards, they enjoyed an evening of food, music and drinks at Dublin Down Irish Pub and Eatery, 4628 Main Ave.
“It’s a wonderful showcase of talented artists and we’re really excited about it,” said Chris DiGiacomo, event chairman. “We’re going to have a lot of music and crafters. It’s going to be a lot of fun for the family.”
