Live art in multiple forms will grace the streets of Uptown Somerset this weekend. The third annual Chalk the Block festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Diamond in Somerset.
This event will feature activities for all ages, including street chalk art by both professional and amateur artists, live music, a youth and adult chalk competition, live artist demonstrations, children’s games and food trucks.
The event will feature an appearance by professional chalk artists Erik Greenawalt, aka “The Chalking Dad,” and Loris Figment and a magical area for children at the Kids Kingdom-themed children’s area. The Chalking Dad is known for his larger-than-life color chalk art that usually features interactive designs. The streets will also display the artwork of more than 15 local artists and host more than eight different bands and musicians.
The newly improved Trinity Park will host a variety of musical performances on Saturday, including the Fellowship of the Strings, Take Two and Tim & Stacey. Sunday’s music schedule will feature The Evergreens.
There will also be roaming street musicians all weekend, including the Somerset Roof Garden Chorus, Somerset Area School District strings ensemble, Jade Hetz and NextGen. Back by popular demand, the Uptown Sidewalk Piano will be available for anyone to play.
“Everyone at Somerset Inc. is very excited to present the 3rd Annual Chalk the Block Festival,” Regina Coughenour, executive director of Somerset Inc., said in a press release. “This year’s event will not disappoint, with more artists, live art, food and music.”
